60 Philips LED (white - 2006)

60 Philips LED (white) Lights Review
I've always liked the look of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes)...
They look very modern to me...plus they use very little power
and generate only a small bit of heat.
The colors are intense & don't fade like normal lights that
are just painted to get colors. LEDs work by lighting a gas
that gas is what gives the color (or in some cases they work
somewhat like fluorescent lights which light a gas that gives
off blue/UV light ... that then causes a phosphor to glow,
the phosphor gives the color)
note: that some LEDs will fade in brightness over time

LEDs can vary in color within a set.. it all depends on
the quality control during the as to how much, ideally they
should all be the same color

In the case of these Philips (white, 2005) LEDs there is a
noticeable diff in color if you look closely... The 2006
model rated here is much better with more uniform color.

Also diffrent between 2005/2006 is the sets now have a
plastic 'thingie' on the wire both at the start and end
(these contain a resistor and do get somewhat warm)

One other thing is that LEDs are designed to work on DC
power... but the normal (sometimes called mains) power in
your house is AC. Since AC power operates at 60hz, you may
(or may not) notice a flickering if the set does not have
a diode-bridge to convert AC to DC.
These sets do not have a diode-bridge ... personally i
notice the flickering (without a diode-bridge is also called
half-wave)

As of 2007 the 2005 white Philips LEDs i got have really
started to dim, but so far that is not the case with the 2006
model...overall it appears to be better made.

(i will attempt to get a 2007 set after xmas, but ALL the
stores around here are pretty much cleaned out of LEDs before
xmas and thats at full price!)
